SDG11: Ensuring Access to Adequate and Affordable Housing
By 2030: End Slums and Ensure Housing for All
The United Nations has set an ambitious goal for 2030: ensure access for all to adequate, safe, and affordable housing and basic services.
The Challenges of Urbanization
As of 2022, nearly 11 billion people lived in slums or slum-like conditions in urban areas. With an additional 2 billion expected to live in slums by 2030, this issue demands immediate attention.
The Need for Inclusive and Sustainable Urbanization
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development emphasizes the importance of enhancing inclusive and sustainable urbanization. This involves creating cities that are accessible, equitable, and resilient to environmental challenges.
To achieve these goals, the UN has established 10 targets and 15 indicators for SDG 11. These targets and indicators provide specific measurements to track progress towards ending slums, ensuring access to housing, and promoting sustainable urbanization.
By working together, governments, organizations, and individuals can make SDG 11 a reality and ensure that everyone has a place to call home.
